Magnetic Particle Inspection

Find the surface and near surface flaws

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Crack Testing also known as Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a method that can be used to find the surface and near surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials such as Carbon steel and iron it is primarily used for crack detection.

  • Computerised reports

During Magnetic Particle Inspection, the specimen is magnetised either locally or overall and if the material is sound the magnetic flux is predominantly inside the material. If, however during the Magnetic Particle Testing there is a surface-breaking flaw, the magnetic field is distorted, causing local magnetic flux leakage around the flawed particles on the surface.

Technicians available throughout the UK

MPI testing can be carried out on site throughout in the UK, our Technicians are all dual-qualified in PCN / ASNT and produce computerised reports on site at the time of a test. MPI Testing is normally carried out in conjunction with other NDT methods to produce a comprehensive Inspection Service.
